www.majorgeeks.com
www.filehipo.com
With these two you are always assured of virus free freeware and a good listing of utilities and they sometimes offer mirror sites or even a link to download from the software publishers site.
I don't like www.softpedia.com they love to shove demoes up your screen. There is freeware but then a demo is no good when i wanted a simple utility to run then uninstalll.
Then there is www.cnet.com they require you to download their own down loader to download the file for you and who knows what the down loader can send back to them.No matter how ligitimate the site is , I find their methods abit shady.
